Telecommunications infrastructure company GigaComm is delivering on its commitment to bridge Australia’s digital divide, signing a five-year contract with affordable housing experts Evolve Housing to provide low-income Australians with fast, reliable, low-cost internet.
The deal will see GigaComm provide Evolve tenants in Sydney and Melbourne with access to a fast internet service, free of installation charges, equipment costs and termination fees, and at a significant discount to other offers.
GigaComm CEO and Co-Founder Sophearom En said: "This is a significant deal for GigaComm that aligns firmly with our commitment to work to help low-income households gain access to reliable and affordable internet.”
“Digital connection is essential in our world today, whether for education, work or connecting to government services. By partnering with an organisation like Evolve, we can address the digital divide that prevents some Australians from achieving their potential.”
Evolve CEO Lyall Gorman said: “At Evolve we are always looking at ways to innovate and provide our tenants cost effective alternatives to key services, not just the cost of housing. We are excited about the opportunity to partner with GigaComm to provide our tenants greater choice when it comes to reducing cost of living pressures on essential services like those provided by GigaComm without compromising quality.”
GigaComm, specialises in providing high-speed internet to apartment buildings, stratas and commercial users, using its own infrastructure as an alternative network capable of delivering fast speeds at a more affordable price point.
The company has already completed network builds in 141 suburbs stretching from Melbourne to Sydney and more recently in Brisbane and aims to expand to a further 60 suburbs within 3 years. In Sydney alone the company already offers services in excess of 20,000 households
Mr En said GigaComm was in discussions with a number of other community housing providers to extend its offering to as many social housing residents as possible. “By owning our own optical fibre and fixed wireless network we are not constrained by the limitations of nbn. We are uniquely placed to develop proposals with housing providers that reduce the financial burden of connectivity for low-income families and individuals.”
